Notes: |
Yanofsky has 'R. Macleod' in this event; Gaige has 'MacLeod'; Di Felice has 'MacLeod, Nicholas Menelaus'; Cohen has 'Nicholas MacLeod'; the Quebec Morning Chronicle of 19 Jan. 1888 (p.4) and 26 Jan. 1888 (p.4) and Le Quotidien of 4 Feb. 1888 (p.3) have 'N. MacLeod'. Yanofsky gives only the top 3 total scores but says that there was a triple tie for the other 3 places; Gaige and Di Felice give a crosstable giving Barry 2 points, Champion and Sanderson a half point each. Gaige calls this the 15th Canadian Championship; Di Felice calls it the 14th, but does not count the first unfinished event in 1872; the Quebec Morning Chronicle of 19 Jan. 1888 says it was the 15th meeting of the Canadian Chess Association. The main event in Québec finished on 25 Jan. 1888, and the play-off matches were played in Montréal from 1 to 3 Feb. 1888. |
