Notes: |
The tournament was held between 22 and 26 May 1931, in Memel. The Deutsche Schachzeitung of 1931 (p.171) says that the first tie-break between Fuchs and Müller was undecided, and that a second 5-game play-off was to be played later in Zoppot. Di Felice shows Fuchs as the winner of the East German Championship. However, the Danziger Sonntags-Zeitung of 2 Aug. 1931 (p.24) (repeated in the Deutsche Schachzeitung of Aug. 1931, p.236) gives the result of the tie-break as +1-0=2 for Müller, and declares him East German Assocation Champion of 1931. The first two games of this play-off seem to have been the two games they played in the Danzig - Memel Team match, which is included separately here, so only the third game (a draw) was played in addition. It is not clear from this later report what (if any) play-off games were played in May in Memel. I well assume a single draw in May (though there may have been more games with even result), and the July play-off result (minus the two games in the team match), played in Zoppot, presumably after 26 July, when the Danzig-Memel team match finished, and before 28 July, when the Zoppot tournament started, so perhaps 27 July. |
