Event table notes

Event data
Name: 11th City of London Chess Club Championship
Place: London, England
Start date: Nov. 1900
End date: Apr. 1901

Notes:
Only partial results available - total scores for top 6 places. These are consistent with a 22-player single-round all-play-all tournament. The British Chess Magazine of Nov. 1900 (p.454) says 23 players entered, and the Pall Mall Gazette of 18 Dec. 1900 (p.10) lists scores of 23 players after 8 rounds, but perhaps one player dropped out before the end. The British Chess Magazine of Jan. 1901 (pp.31,35) has two games from the tournament dated 6 Nov. 1900, so it had started by that date. The final scores, apart from a few games left to play, are given in the May 1901 British Chess Magazine (P.217), and the win by Lawrence with his final score is announced in the 30 Apr. 1901 issue of the Times (p.12) so I will guess that the tournament finished in Apr. 1901. The other 17 players who entered were: H.W. Trenchard, H.S. Barlow, C.H. Lorch, T. Physick, A.J. Maas, C.W. Hopper, C.J. Woon, E.B. Schwann, J.F. Allcock, P.R. Gibbs, W.E. Vyse, Harold Jacobs, A.E. Tietjen, C. Hammond, T.B. Girdlestone, J. Scantlebury, and S. Wood.
