Name: Lancashire - Yorkshire County Match |
Place: Bradford |
Start date: 20 May 1871 |
End date: 20 May 1871 |
|
Notes: |
This was a 10-a-side match, with 2 games intended to be played between each pair of players, but 8 games were undecided. Three of the pairs did not finish any games: John Lord - A.B. Skipworth; T. [or possibly F.] Grübe - J.W. Young; R.W. [or possibly T.] Johnson - W. Fieldsend. Staunton indicates in the Illustrated London News of 3 June 1871 (p.555) that the second game between Wood and Petty was undecided, but later cites a correspondent, saying that Petty had since resigned that game (8 July 1871, p.27). Sergeant says 11 games were finished with the result +5-4=2 for Yorkshire, so he presumably does not count the second Wood-Petty game. |
