The Illustrated London News of 14 Oct. 1848 (p. 234) says that Kennedy has won 3 matches from Lowe and 'has proffered to play him a fourth', so it began after this. The 9 Dec. 1848 issue (p.363) gives a result so far of +3-1=1 for Kennedy, so it began before this. As of the 30 Dec. 1848 issue the match had not yet finished, but in the 6 Jan. 1849 issue the final result is given. From the above information, I suppose that it started in Dec. 1848 and finished in the first few days of Jan. 1849. |
