Biographical data |
Name: Ludovici, Sarah Anne |
Also known as: Mrs. Ludovici; Madame Ludovici; Frau Ludovici; Sarah Anne Rogers |
Born: 1837 |
Died: 27 July 1904 |
|
Notes: |
According to Tim Harding's Eminent Victorian Chess Players (p.157) and Steve Mann (personal communication), she was born Sarah Anne Rogers, but became 'Mrs. Ludovici' or 'Madame Ludovici' or 'Frau Ludovici' by marriage. Tim Harding says she was 'probably born early in 1838', but Steve Mann deduces that it was in the latter part of 1837, on the basis of the existence of birth registrations under that name in 1837 but not in 1838. The British Chess Magazine of July 1890 has 'Mrs. Ludovici' on p.264 but 'Miss Ludovici' on p.265. The Sept. 1891 (p.406) has 'Mrs. Ludivici'. The Sept. 1892 issue (p.388) has 'Madame Ludovici'. |
