Notes: |
Gaige has 'W. Wardhaugh' at Glasgow 1909, but 'C. Wardhaugh' at many other events from 1908 to 1927, and just 'Wardhaugh' in 1905 and 1906. Di Felice has 'Wardhaugh, Carrick' at all of these events. Alan McGowan, on his Chess Scotland website, suggests that this was simply an error. Gaige cites the British Chess Magazine of 1909 (p.215) for the Glasgow 1909 crosstable. McGowan cites The Year-Book of Chess by Michell for the initial 'W', and says that to his knowledge the only player named Wardhaugh active at that time was Carrick Wardhaugh (personal communication). I will consider the initial 'W' to be an error. |
