Event data |
Name: Philadelphia - Manhattan Club Match |
Place: Philadelphia and New York |
Start date: 7 Nov. 1883 |
End date: 24 Nov. 1883 |
|
Notes: |
The identity of the 'L. Cohn' on the Manhattan club team is not certain. I have assumed it to be Louis Cohn, but there was also around this time an 'L.D. Cohn'. In Jan. 1882, L.D. Cohn was elected vice-president of the Manhattan club, while Louis Cohn was elected recording secretary (Brooklyn Chess Chronicle, 15 Jan. 1883, p.70). The first round of the match was played in New York on Nov. 7, and the 2nd round was played in Philadelphia on Nov. 24. According to the New York Clipper of 1 Dec. 1883 (p.614), Blackmar lost his second game against Voigt by forfeit (he missed the train). |
