| Enciclopedia degli scacchi in Italia says born c1800 and died c1881. Dubois (Nuova Rivista degli Scacchi, Jan. 1886, p.12) says he was born in 1799 or 1800. He is surprised to find Luchini listed as a first class player in a document of the Chess Academy in Rome in 1819, since Luigi Luchini would have been no more than 20 years old, but there we find 'G. Luchini' in the first class list, and 'V. Luchini' in the second class list, and not 'L. Luchini'. In Il Primo Torneo Nazionale, Dubois makes it clear that Luigi Luchini was the nephew of the elder Luchini, who, we suppose, must be G. Luchini. The Chess Player's Chronicle of Aug. 1852 (p.236) gives his name as 'Lakini'. |
