Could this be the Bristol Player, William Franklin? A player named 'Franklin' appears in the Chess Player's Chronicle of 1847 (v.8, p.146). A 'W. Franklin' is listed as a member of the Liverpool Chess Club from 1858 (Edgar, Liverpool Chess Club, 1893). Could either or both of these be the London player William L. Franklin? There was also mention of a London player named 'W. Franklyn' who may be the same person.
