Notes:
The Westminster Papers (1 June 1871, p.19) gives 'Claude Macfie'; the Illustrated London News (3 June 1871, p.555) gives 'Claud Macfie'. McGowan has 'Claude Macfie' in the 1871 East and West of Scotland Match but 'Claud Macfie' in the 1872 East and West of Scotland Match. The official birth and death records he sent both have 'Claud', though an obituary in the Greenock Telegraph and Clyde Shipping Gazette of 26 May 1903 (p.3) has 'Claude'.
