| Was his surname 'Roberton' or 'Robertson'? Steve Mann gives his year of birth as 1833 or 1834. I am guessing that the 'J. Roberton' who played for Glasgow against Dundee in 1866 and in the East vs. West of Scotland matches of 1871 and 1872 was the Huddersfield player, who we know was originally from Scotland. That player is listed as 'Roberton' (rather than 'Robertson') in the Glasgow Herald of 6 May 1872 (p.5). |
