Notes: |
An 8-player single-round all-play-all tournament. The reports in the Illustrated London News and the Chess Player's Magazine do not give explicit scores but say that de Vere lost only one game, and that Owen, Wisker and Thorold lost only 2 and therefore tied. No mention is made of draws. Sean Marsh gives the crosstable as reconstructed by Ken Whyld, with some speculation about who beat who among Wilson, Wayte and Salter, but with verified total scores. However, Skipworth apparently dropped out at some point, so some of his games were defaulted, but there seems to be no indication which. The tournament lasted about a week. Steve Mann gives the same crosstable, with the same individual game results unclear. Mann also gives the dates as 6-11 Aug. 1866. |
