Notes: |
The Illustrated London News of 19 Aug. 1871 (p.163) lists a 'J.H. Empson' as being present at the Malvern 1871 meeting, and then lists a 'G.F. Empson' amongst the competitors in the 2nd class tournament there. Could both be errors for 'J.F. Empson'? Bell's Life in London (15 Jul. 1855, p.5; 23 Sep. 1855, p.5) lists a 'J.F. Empson' and a 'J.F. Empson, jun' as two separate players. The Chess Player's Magazine of 1 May 1867 (p.156) has 'F. Empson'. The Report of the Manchester Meeting of 1857 has 'J.T. Empson' on p.5, but 'Empson, Mr J.F.' on p.39. |
