| Date given in the 20 Nov. 1885 issue of the Nottinghamshire Guardian (p.2) as 'Thursday last week', which I take to mean 12 Nov., though it might have been 5 Nov. 1885. The copy of the newspaper clipping given in the Nottingham Club Record Book is dated in pen 'Nov. 6, 1885', though it appears to be exactly as in the Nottinghamshire Guardian of 20 Nov. 1885. The error might suggest that the club secretary new that the tournament occurred on 5 Nov., but this is speculation. Four games were unfinished and adjudicated: Marriott - Lewis, Browne - Withers, Gerard - Clarke, and Davis - Cole. |
