Name: Whiteman, James G.
Born:
Died:

Notes:
Brennen gives 'James Whitman' in a game against Jellett in Philadelphia in 1864. I am guessing that this is James G. Whiteman. This may also be the 'Whitman' given by van Winsen on p.23 of his James Mason in America. The Era of 31 Jul. 1870 (p.7) has 'T.G. Whiteman'. Harding's Blackburne biography mentions as a participant in a blindfold simultaneous exhibition by Blackburne in Sheffield in Feb. 1873, a player named 'Whitman, the American consular agent in Huddersfield, who was said to be himself capable of conducting four simultaneous blindfold games', citing the Sheffield Daily Telegraph and other local sources. I suspect that this was James G. Whiteman.
