| 32-player handicap knockout tournament, with players in 4 classes. Forster does not indicate how many games were played in each pairing. I will suppose that only 1 game was played, since this event was held concurrently with other tournaments in which some of the same players were participating, though I may have missed some draws. Forster gives dates as 'ca. 5-9 August 1873'. The losers of the first round played a 'consolation tourney' included here. I am not sure whether it was H.M. Isaacs of Bristol or Lister Isaac of Worcester or T.W.P. Isaac of Bath at this event. Reports consistently have 'Isaac' rather than 'Isaacs'. I will guess that it was T.W.P. Isaac. In the list of participants given in the Field of 9 Aug. 1873, Sanders is listed, rather than Boorne. I presume Boorne replaced Sanders before play actually began. |
