The Chess Player's Magazine of Dec. 1866 (p.383) has 'S.J. Kempson'. Michael Kühl has identified 'S.G. Kempson' as Samuel Green Kempson, on the basis of an address associated with the Birmingham Club player, S.G. Kempson, in Pinfold Street (in the Birmingham Daily Post of 27 Jan. 1876, p.1) and a notice regarding the dissolution of a partnership between Samuel Green Kempson and James Tucker in running a Wine, Spirit, Ale, and Porter business in Pinfold Street, Birmingham (in the London Gazette of 3 Apr. 1877, p.2421). Kühl then found the birth and death dates from the FamilySearch website.
