I am tentatively identifying the Thomson of Manchester who played at York 1868 as W. Thomson, who played at later Counties Chess Association tournaments, and as the Thomson who played in the third class of the 1860-1861 Manchester club tournament. His name sometimes appears as 'William Thompson'.
