Notes: |
Almost all pairs of players played only one game, but the result for Sipman-Cooper is given as 1-1, and the result for Mounteney-Robotham is given as 'drawn' for Mounteney, but '1' for Robotham. In order to arrive at a tied match, as is the stated result, then Robotham should have the win, but here I will record the result as +0-1=1 for Mounteney, though the draw may be an error. Many of the names are garbled in the report in the Nottinghamshire Guardian. I am guessing that 'G. Marriott' was actually E. Marriott, 'J. Dickens' was actually J.S. Dickins, 'E.B. Jerrard' was actually T.B. Gerard, 'A.W. Mountway' was actually A.W. Mounteney, 'A. Sipman' was actually C. Sipman, 'J. Sander' was actually E.J. Sander, and 'E.C. Hanson' was C. Hanson. It is also possible that the 'E.J. Rodgerson' here was E.H. Rodgerson, who played in the City of London Club in 1875, but this is less certain, and I have not made this identification. |
