Biographical information from Tim Harding: Born Stratocek, Belgium; arrived in England 28 July 1845, and again in London 12 July 1858; middle name Godfrey. Name given as 'Jansens' sometimes in the Illustrated London News (15 Jul. 1876, p.71). Name given as 'Jansen' in the Chess Player's Chronicle of July 1854 (pp.198-200), but the Errata at the beginning of the volume correct it to 'Janssens'.
