Notes:
Bernard Lucas gives 'Alfred Delanoy', but then gives a quote from La Régence attributed to 'Alph Delannoy'. Falkbeer in the Sunday Times of 21 June 1857 (supplement, p.4) gives his name as 'Delanoie'. Land and Water (6 Apr. 1878), quoted by Renette and Zavatarelli, gives 'Delaunoy'. The Illustrated London News of 10 Nov. 1877 (p.462) has 'Delauney' and the issue of 8 Dec. 1877 (p.558) has 'Delaunay', but the 24 Nov. 1877 issue (p.511) has 'Delannoy' in a report on the same event (the City of London Club handicap tournament).
